Liposuction

Q. WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction is the process of slimming and reshaping specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately enhancing your self-image.

Q. IS THIS AN OUTPATIENT SURGERY? HOW LONG IS THE SURGERY?

The surgery usually takes 3 hours depending on the amount of fat being removed etc.

Q. ARE THERE ANY RISK?

All surgery comes with some risk. Risks may include bleeding, infection, asymmetry, poor healing, reaction to anesthesia and/or skin pigmentation changes.

Q. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

The recovery period lasts as little as four weeks and up to six months, depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure. Swelling usually subsides after one week while bruising may last three weeks or longer.

Q. WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK?

Returning to work can depend on the type of activities you conduct at work and depends on the individual. Dr. Fustok recommends that a girdle-type garment is worn nearly continuously for the first four weeks, and generally for much of the time during several weeks or months thereafter.

Q. WHEN CAN I RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITIES? (EXERCISE, SEX, LIFTING, ETC.)

Near the one-week mark, when they are on milder medicine, they can start light exercise, such as treadmill or stationary bike, but not impact exercises like running or aerobics. The second week, weights or exercise machines can be added, and then after three weeks, running and aerobics can be done.
